Iron Medics Center Patch
The Iron Medics Center Patch represents multiple aspects of EMS and Allied Health with the main shape of the patch being the Star of Life which is the universal symbol today for EMS. This is to remind us that this club was founded primarily as an EMS club and will forever be EMS at its core.
The Orange line around the Star of Life represents the history of EMS when the original symbol, prior to the Star of Life, was an Orange cross. That was changed when the Red Cross complained that it was too similar to their universal symbol.
The Thin White Line around the Star of Life represents the Thin White Line that represents the Brotherhood and Sisterhood of our profession.
The syringe represents those in allied health that give injections, administer medications, and draw blood such as EMS, Nursing, Medical Assistants, and Phlebotomists.
The blood from the syringe represents the necessity of life and our bond as a club.
The scalpel represents the precision of surgery and how we as a profession must keep our skills sharpened in order to help others. It also represents Surgical Technologists.
The oxygen tank represents the other necessity of life and takes the place of the Staff of Asclepius in the Star of Life with the stethoscope replacing the serpent. These two items represent all healthcare providers, including Emergency Medical Responders, who may only be limited to using these two critical items.
The skull represents mortality, and represents Radiology Technologists, Dental, Occupational Therapists, Chiropractors, and any other healthcare professionals that work with the skeletal structures of the body. The EKG in the eyes represent EKG Techs and others who use EKGs and the rhythm goes from lethal to life which is what all healthcare providers strive to achieve.
The Skull is also made of Iron and there is a small crack in the top right side representing that even Iron cracks under pressure and even the strongest of healthcare providers can crack under stress. This ultimately represents our mission of bringing awareness and helping those with PTSD/PTSI in Healthcare and Public Safety. We are all a little cracked to be in this profession.
The colors of all other patches are Orange, White, and Blue, which are the traditional colors of most ambulances. The patches are white with an Orange border and blue lettering. The font is Rebel Bones which is very fitting for the brothers and sisters that make up this family.
The motto “Vita et Mortem” means Life and Death which is what healthcare is all about. We say IM4L which means Iron Medics for Life and I am for Life since we all strive to do what we do…
